About

1.

I'm the captain, CAD lead, and primary driver for BeaverBots, FTC Team 26073, in the Chesapeake region, and I've been building FTC robots since 2021. Our 2025–26 Decode season ended on the field at the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship.

After qualifying, our team made a call I still think about: we retired a robot that worked and rebuilt it around a coaxial swerve drivetrain I designed. The redesign taught me more about engineering than the qualification did.

In 2025 I founded Spartan Robotics, Broad Run High School's robotics club, to give students a path into competitive FTC. It now serves as a mentorship feeder into BeaverBots each season, and I serve as its president.

Off the field: Congressional Award Gold Medalist, Senior Patrol Leader of a 50-Scout troop, weekly volunteer commitments, and a preseason R&D queue that keeps the summer busy.

Coaxial swerve drive

2025–26 Decode season

Mid-season, with a Worlds slot already secured, we replaced our proven drivetrain with a coaxial swerve: four independently steered wheel modules, with drive and steering torque delivered through concentric shafts.

I owned the mechanical design and CAD in Onshape, from module packaging and gear selection to serviceability under competition time pressure. Making four modules behave like one drivetrain took sustained iteration on both the mechanical and software sides, and taught me how tightly the two are coupled in a machine like this. I'm also the team's primary driver, so every packaging decision I make in CAD is one I answer for on the field.

Intake test platform

2026–27 preseason · In progress

The debugged swerve now lives on an 18 in × 18 in skeleton frame built for one job: answering intake questions before the next season starts. The core problem is a compliant roller intake against rigid game pieces, where the roller has to do all the compressing.

The mount I designed uses indexed, repeatable adjustment positions, so every roller and axle configuration is tested against the same reference instead of an eyeballed setup. Vision-guided autonomous pickup is being developed in parallel by a teammate; the platform is designed so both efforts share one chassis.

Spartan Robotics, founder

Broad Run HS · Founded 2025

Broad Run didn't have a pipeline into competitive robotics, so I built one in 2025. Spartan Robotics introduces students to FTC-style design and build work and feeds new members into BeaverBots.

Current focus: recruiting the incoming freshman class for the 2026–27 season and training the members who will carry the team after I graduate. Beyond the club, I mentor teammates and other FTC teams in Onshape and engineering design practice. A team that only works while its founders are around isn't finished.

Troop 58 leadership

Boy Scouts of America · 2021–Present

Five years of youth leadership in Troop 58, working up through Patrol Leader, Instructor, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader to Senior Patrol Leader: responsible for a troop of roughly 50 Scouts, its weekly meetings, annual program planning, and monthly leadership councils.

Along the way: the White Stag Sierra Leadership Development Program, Scouting's Triple Crown of High Adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, and Northern Tier, and an Eagle Scout service project now in progress.

Service

Food rescue

NEST4US · 2024–Present

Weekly surplus food collection from businesses across Northern Virginia, including Panera Bread, Chick-fil-A, Crumbl, Olive Garden, and Whole Foods, redirecting quality food from waste to people who need it.

Bluebird monitoring

Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy · 2023–Present

Citizen science fieldwork most Saturday mornings for over two years: monitoring 40 bluebird nesting boxes across Zephaniah Farm Vineyard and the Goose Creek Trail, logged week over week.

How I work

Unless otherwise specified, the following apply:

  1. Own the call. When a design decision goes sideways, the useful move is naming my part in it, not assigning blame. Accurate beats comfortable.
  2. Write it down. Design studies, test logs, failure writeups. If it isn't documented, it didn't happen.
  3. Measure against a reference. Indexed positions beat eyeballed ones, on the test bench and everywhere else.
  4. Drive what you design. Competing with my own packaging decisions keeps the CAD honest.
  5. Leave the ladder down. Founding a club, mentoring other teams, training the people who come after me.
